The Community Patriotic Service is one of the Freedom Festival’s most cherished annual events, and this year it will be unlike any other! Join us on Sunday, July 4th at 8:00 pm for the first-ever outdoor service at LaVell Edwards Stadium.
Guests will enjoy inspiring performances by Millennial Choirs and Orchestras, plus a talk by Elder Tad R. Callister, general authority emeritus of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This event is open and free to the general public.
Now entering its 15th season, Millennial Choirs and Orchestras consists of over 5,000 participants in Utah, California, Arizona, Texas, and Idaho. The Utah location was founded in 2013 and is under the direction of Dr. Cory Mendenhall.
In June 2016 all five MCO locales converged in Washington, D.C., to perform and record at the Music Center at Strathmore and produce MCO’s first music video on the steps of the Jefferson Memorial. In June 2017 MCO participants united in Salt Lake City to perform six full-house concerts in the historic Salt Lake Tabernacle. Then in July 2019 MCO participants performed two concerts in famed Carnegie Hall in New York City, then performed in the streets when their third concert was cancelled due to a power outage!
Elder Tad R. Callister was serving in the Presidency of the Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and as a member of the Second Quorum of the Seventy when he was called as Sunday School general president. He was released on April 6, 2019.
He received a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Brigham Young University, a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of California–Los Angeles, and a master’s degree in tax law from New York University Law School. He is the author of numerous books and articles on religion, U.S. history, and the Constitution.
